Training, education and development
It is very important to us that you are well prepared and supported in your role. That’s why we have a comprehensive training and education package designed to ensure you’re confident and safe while caring for our patients.
Our training team here at Umbrella has created bespoke training pathways to suit the individual needs of everyone who joins our team.
-
Corporate induction
All staff will undertake corporate induction when they join UHB. The purpose of the induction is to welcome you to the team and to introduce you to our way of working. The induction will cover any mandatory training required before you are able to start working for us.
-
Supernumerary practice
Once you’ve accepted a position with us, you will have a period of supernumerary practice while you develop your competencies. During this time you will work alongside colleagues who are supportive, caring and patient. The exact period of this training will depend on your previous experience and will be adapted for each individual.
-
Qualifications
We will provide you with training and qualifications that are recognised both locally and nationally. These will include becoming a diplomate with the Faculty of Reproductive and Sexual Health, as well the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV STI foundation certificate qualification.
Your development
The Trust prides itself on its training and development for nursing staff.
We offer all our newly qualified nurses a six-month preceptorship programme supported by UHB’s Clinical Education team. We also have close links with local universities offering various specialist courses.
You will have regular contact with our professional development nurses (PDNs) who will offer support and provide on-the-job training, education and support.
We also recognise the importance of developing skills and knowledge in all aspects of your career. Therefore, should you want to discuss learning opportunities such as courses and qualifications, please discuss these with your line manager or the PDNs, who will be happy to help.
