The clinical expert route, from Band 5 to specialist practitioner or clinical nurse specialist.

The operational management route, working towards senior sister/charge nurse, theatre team leaders and on to matron or operational manager roles.

The education and research route, which could provide opportunities in training/education, teaching at university, leading to lecturing roles, working in a dual education/clinical role. These are available in the Corporate Education team, working with undergraduates and postgraduates.

Our departmental professional development practitioners and the Clinical Education team offer a wide range of clinical support for Band 5s, while the range of development opportunities includes established development programmes for all bands, with access to further academic education at levels 6, 7 and above.
